One of the challenges of early Internet use of FTP was remembering all the commands. But we now live in a wonderful world of FTP client software that does all the hard stuff for us. You will need to download one of the following client applications and install it on your local computer.

Examples in this tutorial will provided be for both for WS_FTP LE (Windows) and Fetch 4.02 (Macintosh). You may use other clients if you choose, but you're on your own as to how their details work.

Choose one of the following for download and installation on your computer:

FTP Clients

Windows

WS_FTP LE
This is a basic free FTP client for Windows. They do also make a "pro" version, which costs money. I've know of no one who was not satisfied with this free product. Be sure to choose the free download.
GlobalSCAPE - CuteFTP
Some of my Windows propeller heads think CuteFTP is worth the extra bucks. Better interface and more powerful features than WS_FTP Pro.

Macintosh

Fetch Softworks
My workhorse. Version 4.02 is all the FTP client a Mac needs. Though this is a commercial product, educators and non-profits may download and use it for free. Be sure to read the link on the left side of the page under Licensing.
Vicomsoft FTP Client
Another commercial product, and definitely a step up from Fetch. It has a lot of features missing from Fetch. Unfortunately, they charge $35 for it, and frankly I don't think it's that much better. Call me cheap.
