With your client software downloaded and your Web site ready, it's time to log into the Host computer. In order to to this you must be connected to the Internet.
I will give instructions for both Windows and Macintosh.
Macintosh using Fetch 4.0.2 |
|
Launch Software |
|
|
Fetch will begin with a window that looks like this the first time you run it. It is set up to connect to an active shareware ftp server. If you do not see a "New Connection" window, select "New Connection" from the File menu |

First we will replace the default information with ours. Fill in the information as you see it in this graphic.
I leave passwords blank on all machines, even my own. You don't want any accidents such as a three year old getting into your Web directory. |

To avoid having to type this in each time you want to log in, select Create New Shortcut... from the Shortcuts: menu at the bottom of the dialog box. If you'd like our class FTP site to be your default choice in Fetch, choose Create Default Shortcut... This means that every time you open Fetch your ECI 575 shortcut will be in the window ready for you to log in. |

|
Enter a name for the Shortcut. ECI 575 would be logical, but you can be creative if you wish. |

|
Now you're back at the original dialog box. Enter the Password: for our site. This password will be distributed in BlackBoard. With the Password entered, click the OK button. |

The little doggie will run a bit... And here you are. If everything was entered correctly, you should see your empty remote folder. |

Having connected, we're ready to publish our site.
