For the final project, you are to develop a distance-delivered educational experience, using videoconferencing as the primary medium. Other media may be used upon approval, but only to supplement the video environment. This project should take full advantage of the chosen medium.

Performance Specifications

VideoConferencing
The final project should be a ten minute lesson presentation. The lesson should be supported by distributed materials for each learner. It also should use at least three presentational options (camera, video, computer, document camera, etc.). Accommodation of student interaction is crucial to the success of this lesson; lead student interaction during the lesson and account for how students will interact with the instructor after lessons.

What to turn in

All projects must include the following documentation (groups may be either more detailed or each group member may submit their own versions)

  1. Project Design Document (1 - 2 pages). Outline what informed the instructional design of your project, including learner analysis, subject needs, justification of media selection and formative evaluation methods.
  2. Systems Analysis (1 - 2 pages). Moore and Kearsley contend that distance education must involve some sort of systems approach in order to be successful. Apply their ideas to your project, stating what sort of team would be needed to develop your educational environment as a complete course and what sort of resources would need to be made available.
  3. Student Evaluation (1 page). State how you would conduct student evaluation in your educational environment. Would it be for self-evaluation or institutional (i.e. a grade)? Explain why.
  4. Summary (1 - 2 pages). Finally, how does your final project reflect some of the issues raised by the readings? Does it reflect a new educational paradigm? Is it theoretically different from classroom instruction? Does it fill an educational need not well met by other educational institutions? Please situate your work in the larger educational conversation. Also include a self-evaluation of your efforts.
  5. Handouts. Please also include a complete set of any handouts that accompanied your work.
This project may be an expansion of earlier work in the class. You may also work in teams, with the specification that for each team member there must be on ten minute lesson (or equivalent "day" in computer conferencing).
