We will spend a large part of class today learning editing in the timeline. Topics will include:
After the exercises time in class will be given over to assembling your Project One, which will be due next week.
It is important to realize that when a Final Cut Pro document is saved, the ".fcp" file that is saved is not a collection of all your clips, but rather a sort of table of contents. When copying your project to a hard drive or burning it to a disc, all the files must go together and maintain their relationship.
So, when working on a project, say in the ETMC, first do the following:
| On the hard drive of the computer, create a folder with your name | ![]() |
| Launch Final Cut Express HD | |
| Immediately select System Settings... from the Final Cut Express HD menu. | ![]() |
| Choose the Scratch Disks tab | ![]() |
| Click on the Set... button | ![]() |
| Find the folder you just made and click choose. | ![]() |
Now all of your files will be in one folder, and when you are finished with your editing session you can just drag the folder to your storage disc and all your files will work.
