Course Overview

Catalog Description: A study of the learning processes of the adult learner with an emphasis on adaptations of the instructional process to accommodate the differences inherent in the adult learning environment. Practical applications to actual adult learning situations are included.
Prerequisites: HRD 240 & 245

Course Objectives

This course examines instructional theories and principles that focus on adult learners. You will study various learning theories and investigate practical strategies for facilitating adult learning. For this, you will have opportunities to design and deliver instructional modules utilizing learning theories studied in class. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

• understand learning throughout the life span
• critically examine issues in adult learning
• understand and apply theories and methods of adult learning
• apply contemporary and alternative perspective on learning
• understand cognitive development in all stages of adulthood
